  • The Diversion Process

  • Several National Grid departments are involved when a gas transmission pipeline needs to be diverted.  In the first instance customers need to contact our Plant Protection Team to determine the size and pressure of any gas pipes within their project.

If Plant Protection identify a gas transmission pipeline they will put the customer in touch with Gas Transmission Asset Management, who will discuss with the customer the diversion process, the safety aspects and the timescales.  They will also advise that all diversion work is customer funded.

The Gas Customer Team is responsible for managing the contractual issues.  We will arrange any studies required, Pre Works Agreements,if needed, and the Diversion Agreement.

The physical works are undertaken by Capital Delivery.

Following completion of the diversion works the Gas Customer Team will reconcile the costs.
