Climate Change

We forecast that we will continue to significantly exceed (better) the 45% by 2020 reduction target. We expect the 2050 target (against our 1990 baseline) to be extremely challenging.

This perspective looks at how we have interacted with the environment during 2015/16:

  • 62% reduction in our scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared with our 1990 baseline.
  • Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, excluding electricity transmission line losses, were approximately 7.3 million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent, at approximately the same level as 2014/15.
  • Including electricity transmission line losses, our scope 1 and 2 emissions equated to around 10.7 million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent.
  • We lost around 12.0 tonnes of sulphur hexafluoride through leaks from our plant and equipment.
  • Scope 3 emissions were around 35.6 million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent.
We independently assure our greenhouse gas emissions against the international standard ISO 14064-3 greenhouse gas assurance protocol
