  • Methodology to determine costs related to the transfer of a National Transmission System (NTS) Pipeline to a third party

  • National Grid has considered converting a section of the National Transmission System (NTS) from natural gas transportation to CO2 transportation to exploit opportunities for carbon capture and storage. This page contains a proposed methodology statement, and associated consultation documents, that identifies certain costs that might fall on existing users of the NTS as a result of the change of use. The statement contains a methodology to quantify those costs such that they can be charged to the new pipeline owner thereby protecting existing NTS users from increased costs resulting from the transfer of ownership of the relevant pipeline.

The latest position with respect to disposal of an NTS pipeline for carbon capture and storage is that the envisaged project is on hold. In the event that a similar project materialises the methodology below may need to be reviewed.
