In 2010, the energy company InterGen received planning permission to build a new power station adjacent to the existing Spalding power station. However, before the new power station becomes operational, work will need to be undertaken to strengthen the existing electricity transmission infrastructure. This will include proposed work near Moulton Seas End at the point where the existing 5.5km overhead line to Spalding meets the overhead line between Bicker Fen and Walpole St Peter substations.
The proposed work involves laying a small section of cable underground, constructing two new structures known as 'cable sealing end compounds', the removal of an existing pylon and the installation of a replacement pylon. In addition, a 5.5km stretch of 'earth wire' on existing pylons will be replaced, along with the installation of a new access road to the cable sealing end compounds, resurfacing works to part of an existing private access track and new concrete passing places along private tracks to the proposed development site. The proposed cable sealing end compounds and new concrete road to the cable sealing ends require planning approval from the local planning authority. To access the site we plan to use the local road network as well as several private access routes.
This project is currently on hold. We will be updating this page as and when there are new developments.
