• Macclesfield to Bredbury
  • Maps showing sections of the line routes are available on request via the project email.
    • Project description

    • We are carrying out refurbishment work on our electricity transmission line that runs between our substation in Macclesfield and the south of Bredbury. This line is 18km long and has 55 pylons.

This essential maintenance will involve replacing insulators, pylon fittings and conductors (wires) along the route. This will ensure we continue to provide a reliable supply of energy to homes and businesses for years to come.

You may notice our contractors on and around the pylons along the route. You may also see some activity ahead of the main work as our contractors create temporary access routes to the pylons. During certain parts of the work it will be necessary to close some roads and footpaths and use netting and scaffolding over roads to ensure that we can do our work safely. Where we need to close roads we will give plenty of notice, write to local homes and businesses and sign post alternative routes.

We will get this work done as quickly and safely as we can, while keeping the impact on local communities to a minimum. Electricity supplies will not be affected during the work.

    • Latest update

    • So we can work safely Cheshire East Council has agreed that we close some roads as follows:

The Silk Road, Macclesfield - this will be closed between the roundabout at the junction with Hulley Road (McDonalds) and the roundabout at the junction with Bollington Road. The road will be closed between 4 and 13 August. Diversion is via London Road and Manchester Road.

Clarke Lane - this will be closed to all through traffic from 31 July to 24 August from the junction of Clarke Lane and the B5090. Access to homes on Clarke Lane will not be affected. There will be a signed diversion route through Bollington. Businesses on Clarke Lane will be open as usual.

Prince Road - this will be closed between the 3 August and 14 September. Local residents will still be able to drive to their homes as the closure starts at the gate to the “dirt track”.

Pool House Road and the car park at Jackson’s Brick Works on the Middlewood Way - The road will be closed just before the car park between the 3rd August and 14th September. There will be no access to The Middlewood Way during this closure.

We apologise for the inconvenience these closures may cause but there is no other way to complete the work we need to do safely without them.
